From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. After being named a Washington State Farm Bureau 2022 Champion of Agriculture, 12th District Senator Brad Hawkins feels honored by the recognition.

With all of the challenges of the past few years, Hawkins says agriculture has really needed the support in Olympia …

HAWKINS … “One of the things I’m really proud of in getting this recognition from the Farm Bureau is I’ve always felt like my support of their issues support everyone. And that’s the kind of thing that I try to convey with colleagues when they support the farming and ranching communities then they’re really supporting families and communities all across Washington.”

Much of it, Hawkins says is about the urban-rural divide …

HAWKINS … “And the things that we care about in Eastern Washington are many, many of the same things that legislators care about in Western Washington. So, hopefully, we can continue to bridge that gap.”

With challenges like taxation, regulations and State Supreme Court decisions, Hawkins says it’s not easy …

HAWKINS … “But our farmers have a strong and proud history of being able to navigate their way through that, but now it’s even more challenging with the high inflation, the gas prices and some of those other factors, really putting a strain on family farms.”

Hawkins says he’s proud of his 100% voting record in support of farming families because standing with them and their issues benefits us all.
