From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Senator Brad Hawkins of East Wenatchee has been recognized for his efforts to support agriculture in the Washington State Senate.

The East Wenatchee Republican, who serves the 12th District, has been named a 2022 Champion of Agriculture by the Washington Farm Bureau …

HAWKINS … “It’s a real honor for me, you know, to be recognized by the Washington State Farm Bureau is terrific. You know, we don’t always get recognized for our service, but for them to acknowledge a 100% voting record from me on behalf of their members on the issues that impact ranchers, orchardists and the farming community in general, it’s a real honor.”

Hawkins says it’s been a challenging couple of years for the ag community …

HAWKINS … “Particularly as the political pendulum had swung over, a lot of the issues that are not advantageous to the Farm Bureau were being pursued in the legislature.”

That’s why, Hawkins says it’s important to raise awareness of farming issues …

HAWKINS … “The Farm Bureau cares about property rights and access to broadband, water availability, they care about fair wage law and a high-functioning transportation system and really having reasonable regulations and taxes. And those are all the things that I try to advocate for.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on why Senator Hawkins is a strong farming advocate.
