California Almond Production Down and Grain Leaves Ukraine Port
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with your Agribusiness Update.**California’s almond production for 2022 is expected to be 11% lower than last year.
That’s according to the state almond forecast published recently by the USDA’s National Ag Statistic Service.
Last year, California produced 2.92 billion meat pounds of almonds, but this year’s forecast calls for 2.6 billion, revised down from the more promising May report.
California’s top almond-growing counties are Fresno, Kern, Stanislaus, Merced and Madera.
**A ship carrying grain left the Ukrainian port of Odesa for Lebanon on Monday under a safe passage agreement, according to Ukrainian and Turkish officials.
www.agrimarketing.com reports, it was the first departure since the Russian invasion blocked shipping through the Black Sea five months ago.
The sailing was made possible after Turkey and the United Nations brokered a grain-and-fertilizer export agreement between Russia and Ukraine last month.

He adds, from climate-smart agriculture to supporting healthy forests, tax credits, biofuels, infrastructure and beyond, this agreement gives USDA significant additional resources.
House Ag Chair Debbie Stabenow says it contains almost $40 billion to tackle the climate crisis, lower costs, and create good-paying jobs by investing in agriculture, forestry, and rural communities.
