BL: Welcome back to another “Fruit Bites” brought to you by Valent U.S.A. With us again is Valent’s Allison Walston. And this week Allison, we are talking about sunburn prevention.

AW: We have had some unique weather, from last summer’s heat dome to this summer, who knows.

BL: ok, how do we mitigate sunburn during hot temperatures

AW: Use the same techniques as if you are a super pasty person, like me, going to a Florida beach. The sand/ground is hot. Better to lay on a towel or have grassy drive rows. Vegetation helps keep orchard temperatures lower. Next is Shade! Overhead netting acts like a beach umbrella. Just like mist makers, evaporative cooling keeps orchard temperatures down. At the beach, you wear a shirt, for trees, keep vigor to produce more leaves, which provides more cooling and shade. And finally, sunscreen. Sun protective sprays like Raynox brands are like sunscreen and kaolin which is like zinc oxide. For best results, use as many methods as possible to prevent sunburned fruit.

BL: Well, thanks Allison. Join us again next time for Fruit Bites, brought to you by Valent. Until then, I’m Bob Larson.
