05/18/06 Parts tax break form now online

Washington Ag May 18, 2006 That sales tax exemption on agricultural equipment replacement parts enacted this year doesn't take effect until July 1st but a form needed to take advantage of the tax break became available this week on the state Department of Revenue's website. And as Joanne Gordon with DOR explains, getting your paper work in early will help. Gordon: "Our estimate is that 15-thousand or more could potentially qualify for the exemption. That is a lot of applications for the department to be looking at so our goal is to get everything up and running as soon a possible so that we can start working on it so we have these exemption certificates ready to send out as soon to July 1 as possible." And Gordon says that application is just one part of the process. Gordon: "The farmer is still going to need to meet the other criteria to be an eligible farmer, which is the 10-thousand dollars in gross sales in agricultural sales that they grow, raise or produce in the year before they apple for the exemption." The exemption certificate and other information is at http://dor.wa.gov and go to special notices under quick clicks.
