05/24/06 Large farms under Attack

Like a tight cinch on my horse, it galls me when large farming families are demonized by certain factions of our population simply by virtue of success. In contrast the small struggling farmer has quite the repertoire of champions. For Example Willy Nelson is known for his Farm Aide with relief efforts that treat small farmer like some East African outreach. Then there is Ben and Jerry's website that offers a virtual smear campaign targeting large dairies. Now tell me why that in virtually every business sector, other than farming entrepreunship and growth is heralded as a success? Does anyone else see the irony of Willy promoting his Biodiesel enterprise, (naturally he wants to be a big distributor) while chastising industrial ag? I find it disconcerting that while Tom and Jerry weren't content with one ice cream store and sold out for millions to one of the world's largest conglomerates Unilver, they wine on in cyberspace about the travesty of large farms.
