05/02/06 DuPont Affinity BroadSpec

It doesn't matter if it's Canada thistle, wild buckwheat or any of the other tough weeds that are out there. Idaho grain growers now have a new herbicide, DuPont Affinity BroadSpec with TotalSol. Ron Yoder is the DuPont district sales manager. YODER "Those granules dissolve completely in water so that it makes for a lot easier mixing with other products. It allows for easier and faster tank cleanout and more consistent efficacy on broadleaf weeds than the older dry flow formulations did." Yoder says Affinity BroadSpec is a cost effective solution to the tough weeds that hold down yields. YODER "Affinity BroadSpec will get those weeds as well as the others such as mustards and lambs quarters and pigweed." DuPont recommends applying the herbicide to young, actively growing weeds by ground or aerial application at rates of four tenths to one ounce per acre. But what about rotation for growers who use Affinity BroadSpec? YODER "You can rotate to wheat or barley right away of course but to sugar beets in 60 days and any other crop about 45 days so it gives farmers a real good option." There are a number of DuPont retailers and crop advisors who can help growers determine rates and combinations will work best on the weeds in their grain crops this year.
