WDFW-WCA Grazing Research A program between the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and Washington Cattlemen's Association is being implemented. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be back after this with some details. Last November I told you about a grazing memorandum of understanding signed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and Washington Cattlemen's Association. I just talked with Jim Sizemore, first vice president of the WCA about the program. The premise of the program's research is that grazing will provide a greater biodiversity on lands managed by the Wildlife department. To establish a base line for comparison, bird, plant and wildlife survey are taken before any grazing is permitted on the chosen allotments. The research will be open ended for the present time since grazing time frames and intensity may have to be adjusted to provide changes optimum results. The unpredictable climate of Eastern Washington's dry spells and varying moisture may also affect the length of the project to gather pertinent the length of the project to gather pertinent data. If nothing else is gained by this pilot program, one benefit has already been established and that is the trust that is being built between cattlemen and agency officials. The cattlemen appreciate the commitment made by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to see this research to a meaningful conclusion. Tomorrow I'll tell you a little about the first chosen allotment plus some more benefits of a successful program. I'm Jeff Keane.
