04/28/06 Idaho`s ethanol production, part 2

Jim Glancey will be meeting early next month with engineers to continue plans for a 15 million gallon ethanol production plant in Burley. The corn that will be used as feedstock will initially have to come from the Midwest. GLANCEY "We'll be able to take that corn, run it through our processing plant, produce the ethanol and one third of that corn will come back out as a high protein cattle feed." Glancey's company plans to sell the wet distillers grain to the Magic Valley dairies. He says ethanol producers in Minnesota tell him they're shipping all their distilled grain to Idaho. This ethanol plant could help Idaho growers by eliminating some of their grain shipping costs and eventually employing Magic Valley growers to produce the corn or other grains. Nationwide there are 33 ethanol production plants under construction today with another 18 being expanded or modified. They will add another 1.5 billion gallons of ethanol next year to a growing industry. GLANCEY "You can pretty much put your finger on seven and a half as a mandate and I expect that we're going to get up somewhere to the 9 to ten billion gallons is what we'll end up with by 2012." He has buyers standing by to purchase ethanol from his yet to be built plant. Glancey and Wyoming Ethanol hope to be up and running in Burley next year. Today's Idaho Ag News Bill Scott
