New BLM Director Pt 2

I’m Bob Larson. The Senate recently confirmed President Biden’s controversial nomination of Tracy Stone-Manning to lead the Bureau of Land Management.

U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says Stone-Manning’s past involvement with “Earth First” tree spiking in the late 80’s makes her a questionable selection …

NEWHOUSE … “Even Barack Obama’s former Administrator from the Bureau of Reclamation agrees and said that her name should be taken out of consideration for this position.”

Newhouse says it’s the wrong pick for such an important position …

NEWHOUSE … “I think the Administration could do much better and the people in our communities in the Western United States deserve much better than someone who has taken these controversial stands and been engaged in these very dangerous activities that impact people involved in the natural resource industries.”

Unfortunately, Newhouse says this went the way so much does these days …

NEWHOUSE … “Frankly, it’s turned into a very political, almost a hyper-political situation. Democrats want to support their President and his nominations and I totally get that, in fact I have supported some of his nominations. But in this particular case I just think that we can do better and the Western United States deserves better.”

The BLM oversees grazing, logging and drilling of 245 million acres of public lands, about a tenth of the entire U.S.
