It’s time for your Farm of the Future Report. I’m Tim Hammerich.

The amount of data produced by a modern farm is hard to even comprehend. This is definitely true for dairy operations. But the trick is always in the ability to capture, organize, and analyze this data to convert it into useful information. SomaDetect has an innovative approach to this by focusing on the milk itself of each individual cow as it is collected. Bethany Deshpande is the company’s CEO.

Deshpande… “Typically, what we see is it's not about reacting to a single data point. It's about having a really clear perspective on the sort of health and quality of milk coming out of an individual cow over time. You know, is she trending in either direction? Is it moving in the right direction? And then if it's moving in the wrong direction, what are the actions I want to take as a result?”

The company is unique in its ability to collect individual cow data, but it can also provide useful herd insights as well.

Deshpande… “You also get a sense of if I have, you know, a hundred cows in a group of 200 that are trending lower in terms of fat production. That's actually probably a bit of a larger issue that I want to know about as soon as possible before it affects the entire grouping of animals. And so that's also where we help is looking at trends of individual animals, but also being able to kind of integrate up to pen levels and larger groups within the herd.”
