BL: Welcome back to another “Fruit Bites” brought to you by Valent U.S.A. With us once again is Valent’s Allison Walston. And this week Allison, you’ve got an update for us on the Asian giant hornets.

AW: I can’t help it, there is so much entomology in the news with citizen scientists and their amazing observations!

BL: So, how many so-called “Murder Hornets” did they find this time?

AW: Asian giant hornets. After locating a live hornet, entomologists glued a super tiny tracker onto the back and followed it to the nest. The nest had over 1500 hornets present in all life stages.

BL: And to clear up an confusion, these Asian Giant Hornets are MUCH larger than yellow jackets and honey bees.

AW: yes, much larger and more orange than yellow. WSDA expects more nests to be out there and are asking for people to report any sightings. So, I’m thinking of pivoting my entomology career, buying one of these cool entomology spacesuits and roaming around Whatcom County.

BL: Well, thanks Allison. Join us again next time for more Fruit Bites, brought to you by Valent. Until then, I’m Bob Larson.
