04/06/06 Larsen co-chairs dairy caucus

Washington Ag April 6, 2006 Washington's U.S. Representative Rick Larsen is co-chairing the first-ever Congressional Dairy Farmer Caucus. The bipartisan group of representatives and senators says it will represent dairy producing regions across the country and will focus on developing and promoting policy issues that are in the best interest of a healthy national dairy industry. Larsen says Washington state has a rich dairy history and as a representative with a significant number of dairies in his district, he is proud to be a co-chair of the Congressional Dairy Caucus. By the way the Associated Press recently reported that Arizona milk cows can out produce any cow in the country. Well, the National Agricultural Statistics Service says Washington cows are still number one. In 2005 the average dairy cow in Washington produced 23, 270 pounds of milk; the average cow in Arizona produced 22, 957 pounds of milk. Cattle Producers of Washington, an R-CALF USA affiliate organization, will host R-CALF's Bill Bullard at a fund-raiser for both organizations next week. There will be a rollover auction Monday, April 10th at Stockland Livestock Exchange in Davenport at 12:30 p.m. Emtman's Triple E Angus is donating the calf for the auction. Bullard will also speak Tuesday, April 11th at 6 p.m. at the Silver Lake Restaurant in Medical Lake. I'm Bob Hoff.
