With the dry year we are having, it’s a good time to bring back to light some of the USDA resources that are available to farmers and ranchers. Gloria Montaño Greene is the deputy undersecretary for farm production and conservation at USDA.

Greene.... “I think the number one thing that farmers should be considering, and that producers should consider is remember that you do have a partner. And so if you don't have a relationship at the moment with your local service center, be it NRCS, FSA, or even talking to the crop insurance (representative). I would recommend that that really be one of the considerations that you, you start thinking of.”

Undersecretary Greene referenced several programs that offer short term and long term support to producers hit hard by dry weather.

Greene … “This is something that's and taken very seriously from the white house, through all layers of government. So it's not just a one touch point that is addressing and looking at drought and the drought conditions that are occurring in the West. We want to work to support farmers, tribes, and communities that are being impacted by this ongoing water shortage. This is something that is very top of mine and is being monitored very regularly at all layers of government.”
