Sierra Pillmore has this week’s Colorado Hay Report from the Greeley USDA Livestock, Poultry, and Grain Market News Office.

Trade activity was light to moderate on good demand for farm/ranch hay and stable hay. Dairy and feedlot hay trades minimal across the state.

Prices steady on horse hay in the Northeast region of Colorado. Prices were also steady for farm/ranch hay fed to horses and cattle in Southeast Colorado. Trade inactive in the San Luis Valley, Southwest, Mountains, and Northwest areas.

Last year’s mid-April freeze took a real toll. Colorado’s utilized peach production in 2020 was 4,160 tons, down 69 percent from the utilized production of 13,300 tons in 2019, according to the Colorado Noncitrus Fruits and Nuts Annual Report. Bearing acreage was estimated at 2,500 acres, unchanged from the previous year. The average yield per acre was 1.71 tons, down 70 percent from the previous year. The 2020 price per ton in Colorado at $2,820, was $520 higher than in 2019. The value of 2020 Colorado peach utilized production was $11.75 million dollars, down 62 percent from 2019. The report comes from the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
