It’s time for your Farm of the Future Report. I’m Tim Hammerich.

Plant Response, Inc recently announced they acquired Seattle-based WISErg, who pioneered upcycling nutrients from food waste for use in fertilizer. Plant Response, Inc. CEO Tom Snipes describes what attracted them to purchasing WISErg.

Snipes… “They take various expired and, you know, food waste type products out of the grocery stores that were either spoiled or don't meet grade. And they have a really interesting patented process - and it's not a high heat process. So they're able to capture all of those beneficial nutrients and vitamins and other things that are in those food waste and actually create a fertilizer that obviously has got the NPK content, but beyond that has got just a ton of beneficials in it that are stimulating better plant health, better soil health.”

Snipes says Plant Response, Inc. will bring the same distribution and scientific rigor to WISErg that they have brought other biological companies they have acquired.

Snipes… “We think there's a lot of opportunities as you look at food waste, how you recycle that. There's some incredible carbon benefits, but that's not the primary driver why we're interested in it. What we're interested in is just like all of us as humans, when we eat a balanced diet we're healthier and have a better quality of life. Same thing for the plant, you know, antioxidants and things like that, they provide benefits for plants just like they do people.”
