03/30/06 Food and Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today is food and wine pairing day. Now I know that many of us love a really good fresh ripe orange but how many of us would enjoy a slice with a glass of red wine. Well wait until you hear this! Recently my Supper Club got together with a theme of Tapas. Everyone brought something that they loved and we sat around and ate little bites of lots of things. Each plate of items just got better and better. Then we had a break while our host cooked up some lamb and one of our members brought out a plate of sliced oranges. But these weren't any oranges they were perfectly ripe and drizzled with a combination of lime juice, tequila, brown sugar and orange liqueur. The plate was garnish with those spicy little pickled red peppers. The odd thing  it was served with a Syrah. But - It looked so refreshing and we all dove in. I wrapped an orange around a piece of pepper and ate it. WOW! Is an understatement! I had a sip of the wine and I was now realizing what the shocked looks were around the table.
