Aisle of Red Pears Display Challenge Pt 2

With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. Red pears will soon be on full display thanks to a new contest, “Aisle of Red Pears” display challenge, launched by Pear Bureau Northwest, for retailers across the nation.

The Pear Bureau’s Kathy Stephenson says it’s a great time to eat healthy …

STEPHENSON … “Our efforts right now, especially during February, which is ‘Red Heart Month,’ what a great time to highlight the red pear. The best time to see it on the shelf is right now! So, we thought we’d put together this very simple contest in order to get participation.”

Stephenson says just take a picture of your 12-square foot red pear display and upload it to instantly win a $25 gift card …

STEPHENSON … “It’s a great opportunity for them to earn a reward for just putting in a few more red pears on an endcap or building out a small display. So, participation is rewarded for everyone.”

And, Stephenson says for every 500 entries, your picture instantly enters your name for a random drawing for a $500 gift card …

STEPHENSON … “People really appreciate the fact that this is a very simple contest. There’s not a list of requirements. It’s very, very direct, very simple. So, participation should be not something we’re going to run into issues.”

So far, Stephenson says reaction has been great …

STEPHENSON … “Feedback has been terrific. Folks are excited. A lot of the smaller retailers that we work with forwarded it out to all of their participants and their produce associates. So, we’re excited to see what happens between now and the end of March when the contest ends.”
