USDA is announcing more producer eligibilities under its main coronavirus assistance program known as CFAP

USDA Undersecretary Bill Northey spoke about the additions with reporters on a media call.

Northey: “: What a crazy year we’ve all been through. You’ve just done your year-end stories that certainly talked about the year we’ve been through and the impact of the coronavirus, and it’s still out there. This will include top-up payments for swine from CFAP-1. In CFAP-1, we looked to cover inventory payments part of the loss, we’re increasing the amount we’re covering there.

He says the new rules will include help for contract growers

Northey: “We’re adding two additional commodities for CFAP-2 for the sales commodities. This is pullets so growing birds getting ready to be layers, as well as turfgrass sod. “

A new sign up period for the CFAP is underway. It continues through February 26th.

Producers may need to amend their applications if they are already in the program and new joiners will need to create an application. Swine producers don’t need to do anything to benefit from changes. Local staff will see that additional funds for swine producers are distributed.
