With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. With 2020 in the rearview, the other Washington gets rolling with the 117th Congress and many working to help our agricultural industry weather the bumpy ride that continues in the new year.

U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says it’s never easy, but we know what’s important …

NEWHOUSE … “Our priorities in agriculture will remain to be, finally, coming to some relief in the ag labor reform efforts that we’ve been working so hard on over the last several years. We came close in the 116th and we’re going to try and build on the, whatever, the momentum we can garner from last session into this session to move forward.”

And of course, Newhouse says there’s trade …

NEWHOUSE … “Certainly trade, we’ll continue to work hard to improve our trading relationships with this new administration in charge now and all of the critical partners that we have around the world. That’s a key priority.”

Connectivity, Newhouse says is also important …

NEWHOUSE … “If there’s any silver lining at all to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s truly put a huge spotlight on the inequity of broadband availability in rural parts of the country. And, so we can’t let people forget that.”

Listen tomorrow for more on the priorities for agriculture as we move into the 117th Congress and those things Representative Newhouse has on his list.
