The Idaho Bureau of Land Management has to fill 21 vacancies on four RAC's, or Resource Advisory Councils and they need to be filled starting next October.
DAVIS-BRUNNER "Idaho BLM is divided into four districts, one in Coeur d'Alene, one in Boise, one in Twin Falls and one in Idaho Falls. Each district has a Resource Advisory Council."
BLM's Shelly Davis-Brunner says the RAC's represent a cross section of the public but their job is to advise and make recommendations to BLM managers who oversee 11.8 million acres of public land in Idaho. Each council has 15 members who are appointed to three-year terms and represent one of three general interest categories ranging from federal grazing permit holders to environmentalists to the public at large.
DAVIS-BRUNNER "Generally the RAC's meet each quarter in each of the districts so those meetings can be usually one to two days long."
Nomination forms are available at BLM offices or on-line. Council nominees will be evaluated on education, training, knowledge and experience. The deadline to apply is March 27th. The BLM will consult with Governor Dirk Kempthorne prior to final consideration and the decision by the Secretary of Interior.
