Good Luck II Twin calves can be a welcome problem, but a little luck can take any problems right away. I'm Jeff Keane I'll be right back after this to tell you about luck. Yesterday I told you about a cow that had twins and another cow that claimed one of the twins, and left us to wonder about the fate of her own calf. With such a suspicious set of calves, we thought we better look the area over closer for a dead or an abandoned calf. Mom and I saddled horses and started searching for a single calf from the cow that didn't quite match the calf she had claimed for her own. About a quarter mile from where the twins were born we still had cow tracks going up and down the canyon on the trail. We were about to turn around and look in another place, when we heard a hungry calf bawl. Now that's luck! But as anyone who has ever tried to find a calf hid by its mother, the fact that we found this lost calf in sagebrush and rocks is even more rewarding and lucky. I put that calf on the horse with me and we headed down the canyon. Well, our luck didn't stop there for the evening. As we got close to the horse trailer with the rescued calf, another cow came out of the brush with a really small calf following her. I went back into that brush area and found another calf where she had calved that morning. It was a different color, but definitely her twin. All the extra twins and the abandoned calf needed no help learning to nurse from a bottle since they were about as hungry as I am if I go longer than one hour without eating. I sure hope our luck hasn't run out for the rest of calving. I'm Jeff Keane.
