I admit I am a lousy food shopper. I paw through my supermarket nearly every day attempting to discover something new for dinner. Being an empty nester I feel liberated from years of coupons clipping, I deserve that nice bottle of wine, heck I survived the teen age years. You see I am of the boomer generation, thus I shop like a boomer. Boomers don't save leftovers and we won't skimp on our food budget. A new study confirmed that boomers spend $123 a week on food more then the over 65 set at $75 (my mother still clips coupons) and the youngster; the millennials, Generation X and Y'ers. Researchers report that while boomers buy for health, we also want gourmet foods to meet the demands of what they are attributing to our elegant, hectic life" Hectic yes, elegant hardly. This study does liberate me from hiding gourmet coffee and fancy ice cream under the bags of salad in my cart, (oops, bagged lettuce, another boomer indulgence), I know my mother is still buys lettuce in heads. Whatever! I'm Susan Allen and this is Food Forethought. Source: http://www.brandweek.com/bw/news/foodbev/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001994567
