Bob Kiss is a Customer Business Advisor with Bayer Crop Science. He said the Velum is very efficacious on tree nut crops. ‘’You can apply it through the sprinklers. We have a new 2(ee) to spray it on the ground and incorporate it with water.

The nematodes are immobilized with contact or ingestion of the Velum.

"There is a very extensive nematode list that this is effective on, and it's effective on virtually all nematodes found in almonds, including the ring nematode, which is all over the place," said Kiss.

Kiss says it's very easy to use. You can put it on through the micros or drip.

"And like indicated, we now have the new 2(ee)registration where you could spray it or band it on and then incorporate it with micros or sprinklers or anyway with water,” said Kiss. “It's really simple to put on. You irrigate your soil, get the root zone wet, apply the Velum, then clear the system out, get it into the root zone, and it'll do its thing," he said.

Kiss said, right now, this time of year is the best time to apply Velum.

“When the soil temperature was warm-up, and the roots start to grow, the nematodes get active, and this happens in the springtime, and that's the best time to get this on,” Kiss explained.
