02/14/06 Little ducks and big ag

Bayer Cropscience, Dow AgriSciences, Du Pont Crop Protection, Monsanto, Sepro Corporation and Syngenta Crop Protection are working in unison with Ducks Unlimited to improve duck habitat. I wish I had air time to read the list again for those of you that demonize these companies so you would remember that their Herbicides are saving our wetlands. Ducks unlimited reports that 100,000 acres of wetland are lost each year due to invasive weeds that choke out the native grasses water fowl depend upon for survival. These companies, all members of Croplife have generously donated $350,000 worth of weed control products so that Ducks Unlimited biologists and US Fish and Wildlife Officials can successfully combat noxious weed invasion. At Willapa Bay in Washington, a key stopover for migrating waterfowl and shorebirds, an aquatic weed is rapidly destroying mudflats. Herbicides applied by satellite mapping have stopped the devastating spread and saved habitat for water fowl and aquatic life like oysters. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that environmental groups, like Ducks Unlimited and corporate agriculture s can work together to help our for the good.. I'm Susan Allen and this is Food Forethought.
