Ag Labor Appreciation-Perdue Pt 2
I’m Bob Larson. It appears that it takes a pandemic crisis for many people to realize just how “essential” and important the agricultural industry is to our nation. But, it’s times like these that Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue won’t shy away from heaping praise on a supply chain that keeps America fed even when time are tough …
PERDUE … “That’s what I love about agriculture. It’s a “whatever it takes” industry. And, that’s why I’m so proud to be part of you all and watch what you do every day, often times is taken for granted.”
Most people, Perdue says, have no idea really …
PERDUE … “You know, the average American doesn’t really know what it takes to get that chicken breast they buy in the store or where their lettuce or eggs come from, but there’s a whole line of people, a whole chain of people and industries that make up that food supply chain. Right now, it’s more important than ever to ensure that it remains safe and secure.”
Perdue says from the farmers and processors, to the fertilizer and pesticide suppliers, to the truckers and grocers, they all deserve a ton of credit …
PERDUE … “But, I just want to assure you and the American public that this supply chain is strong and there’s no need to hoard food, and we won’t run out of food in America, and I think that’s becoming apparent to the people who seem to be shopping in better fashion rather than trying to load up multiple buggies or buy enough toilet paper for a three month supply. I don’t know where that came from, but you won’t need that.”
Perdue says the USDA will also continue to keep all of our food safe and reliable.
