With California Ag Today, I’m Tim Hammerich.

In these uncertain times, our food system continues to rise to great challenges. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue has a message for all involved in agriculture: thank you.

Perdue… “For the people who are stocking those shelves. For the people who are driving the trucks to get this food to us. The people who are processing the food, and the people who grow the food, and all the vendors that supplied our farmers to help him grow the food, whether it's fertilizer or feed or seed or any other input. Thank you so much for what you're doing. And I know these are uncertain times, but I just want to tell you from my heart as an American citizen, I am so grateful for what you're doing. We've got our food safety inspection workers on the front line, day in and day out to make sure our food safe, just like we always have. But you're the real heroes in this effort. You're vital to our economy and you're vital to our needs of America having a food supply. You've probably heard me say before our motto at USDA is 'do right and feed everyone'. We can't do that alone at USDA, but you're doing it. Thank you. God bless you. Stay safe.”

Secretary Perdue shared this message on his social media on Friday. While non-essential industries shut down, it is imperative that agriculture keeps going.

Please continue to show your support for our farmers and ranchers and those that help them restock these empty grocery store shelves. A little thank you every now and then helps as well.
