Pears and National Nutrition Month Pt 1
With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. What’s in your fruit bowl? That’s the question being asked once again by Pear Bureau Northwest during the month of March, National Nutrition Month. The Pear Bureau’s Kathy Stephenson says this marks the third year for the #WhatsInYourFruitBowl initiative …
STEPHENSON … “We’ve put some more information behind it to talk about the reasons why having a well-stocked fruit bowl is good for your family. So, the research we’re sharing talks about the habits that can be built with a family having a nice, well-stocked fruit bowl and how Americans are eating fewer and fewer fruits and vegetables, and that’s just something we need, as a produce community, to change.”
And, Stephenson says, it’s a team effort …
STEPHENSON … “So, this effort is to work with a few other fresh fruit producers like the National Mango Board, California Avocados, we’re working with Harry & David, and all of these folks are chipping in to try and spread this word. It’s mostly a social media effort, but we also are working with some supermarket dieticians at a couple major retailers across the country.”
But, there are others too …
STEPHENSON … “Additionally, we’re tapping in to work with Producers For Better Health, which is a foundation that is focused on increasing fruit and vegetable consumption. That also is going to be a social media campaign.”
Stephenson says to follow the fun and ins-pear-ation throughout the month of March, make sure to follow @USAPears on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
