Potato Growers Pleased with New Dietary Guidelines for Americans
This week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Department of Agriculture released the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans, marking the most significant reset of federal nutrition policy in decades.According to the Trump Administration the new Guidelines deliver a clear and common-sense message to the American people: eat real food.
Among other things, the guidelines emphasize simple and flexible guidance rooted in modern nutrition science like prioritizing protein at every meal; consuming full-fat dairy with no added sugars, eating vegetables and fruits throughout the day; and limiting highly processed foods.
During Potato Expo 2026 in Dallas, Texas, National Potato Council CEO Kam Quarles talks about potatoes and where they’re placed in these new guidelines.
The Trump Administration says it’s restoring scientific integrity, accountability, and common sense to federal health guidance. And the 2025–2030 Guidelines reestablish food—not pharmaceuticals—as the foundation of health and reclaim the food pyramid as a tool for nourishment and education.
