Each month the Colorado Department of Agriculture features a different commodity to highlight the variety of products grown in the state.

For January Wendy White with the CDA tells Colorado Ag Today they’re doing something a little different.

White: “We’re trying to start off the new year right with food safety tips. We got some great resources from the US Food and Drug Administration on how to keep food safe throughout the year.. It is about four steps: clean, separate, cook, and chill. And we have great tips at www.Coloradoproud.org to help you in each of these areas.”

White adds that as we all look at new beginnings it’s a good time to consider how to keep food safe, especially in home kitchens. It’s a good way to get everyone off to a healthy new year.

January is a busy month for Colorado agricultural producers. Also happening this month, the National Western Stock Show, The Colorado Farm Show and the Western Colorado Horticultural Society and Vinco - the premier grape growing and wine making conference. And the Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers are getting set to host their annual conference next month.
