The Colorado Department of Agriculture has a new Hemp Online Portal, or HOP.

The portal is for hemp growers who can now more easily and quickly apply and pay for an application to be reviewed by the state, on line.

Brian Koontz, Hemp Program Manager at CDA says the state has had an Industrial Hemp Program for five years and each year the number of participants has at least doubled.

KOONTZ: “ After the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill and this last December we went from approximately 1,000 hemp registrations to currently we have 2,647. So it was 2 1/2 fold from last year. And all those registrations were paper registrations. That’s a lot of paperwork. And in addition to the applications coming in, the applications are approximately 14 pages long.

He says those applications have very specific requirements on how a grower maps his or her land. In addition to that the grower must submit planting reports and harvest reports. The state is required to turn around hemp applications in 30 days and issue a growing certificate. This online portal will make a once difficult project much easier for both growers and state hemp officials.

The Hemp Online Portal, or HOP, is found at the Department of Agriculture’s website and also linked at Aginfo.net
