01/05/06 Activists take a walk on the wild side

There is nothing more sickening then the sight of knapweed and cheat grass when hiking, hunting or riding in our magnificent Western wilderness. It is rapidly destroying native vegetation that wildlife depends on to survive. The BLM has tried numerous " organic" methods, like goats and hand pulling to stop noxious weed invasion yet none have worked . Now they want to use the same herbicides we use in our backyards to spray the weeds. Environmentalists and the Organic Consumer Association are trying to stop the spraying, claiming it will destroy the eco system. Hum, have they ever ventured into the wilderness to watch a deer starve to death after ingesting prickly knapweed , or observed the limp of a coyote when cheat grass has worked up it's toes deep into it's leg, or tried to consol a friend after her beloved horse strangled to death when cheat grass lodged in it's throat. So tell me dear environmentalists? Just who is damaging our ecosystem?. Might be time these activist left suburbia and took a walk on our wild side, only then will they understand it.
