Larry's Bull Purchases made at a livestock auction can be interesting. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be right back with an auction story. All kinds of stories come from purchases made at livestock auctions. Most buys turn out to be good ones and you feel pretty proud of the animals you acquired, but some turn out to be stories related by guys on the radio with nothing better to do. Seems like anyone who has frequented a sale more than five times in their lives have made purchases of both types. A few years ago, my friend, Larry needed another bull and stopped at the local livestock sale. It was getting close to breeding season for the cowherd and he had not found the bull he needed. Larry saw a good three-year-old bull enter the sale ring that met the qualifications of his critical eye. The bull's conformation was what Larry wanted --- he had good legs and feet and all the parts that make a bull a bull. Larry bought him and hauled Mr. Bull home. When unloaded, the bull proved Larry's assessment of good legs correct he started jumping from one corral to the next. Larry ran around the barn and stopped him at the last fence so Bully started jumping back the other way. When he got back to the loading corral, Larry put him on the truck and hauled him back to the sale. Elapsed time from the sale yard back to the sale yard was 45 minutes. The auction owner said that the bull knew his pen since he had been there five times in the last two weeks. I don't know if Mr. Bull ever found a home on the range, but Larry did finally get a less athletic bull. I'm Jeff Keane.
