As each year draws to a close, It seems I am drawn to trends. So what is looming on the food and farming horizon for 2006? Obviously we will be making the move away from plastics towards edible packaging, possibly made from corn, soy or vegetables. Our terminology surrounding the art of eating is also constantly undergoing transition. Low fat now seems "stodgy." Remember when we first heard the term "organic" today the word "sustainable" is often used in the same context. Trend forecasters predict that we will soon tire of it's overuse replacing it instead with the new holistic buzzword "planet-saving." Expect planet saving products that will stroke our global consumer consciousness assuring us that the earths dwindling resources were treaded lightly upon during their manufacture. Healthier crops will be grown due advances in biotechnology , infusing vegetable oils with substances like omega -3 fatty acids currently found only in fish. In 2006, Technology will continue to astound us. Source: Des Moines Register.com 12/04/05 Planet-saving becomes new food buzzword.
