The Agriculture Secretary has unveiled the Trump administration's plans to help farmers hurt by tariffs.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue made the announcement of a $12 billion program to help farmers who are currently bearing the brunt of the administration's trade tactics.

Another part of the plan is a food purchase and distribution program which would purchase surplus of goods going to nutrition programs.

And there is a trade promotion program to provide private sector assistance to open new markets.

The Trump Tariff Aid plan draws on the financial resources of an existing program known as the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) and Section 32 funding.

Analysts say the initiative does not authorize any new money and does not need approval from Congress. But U.S. taxpayers will see deficits go still higher.
