What's In Your Fruit Bowl? Pt 2
With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. We teased you yesterday about a social media contest Pear Bureau Northwest is putting on to celebrate American Heart Month in February. The Pear Bureau's Kathy Stephenson says they've partnered with the California Avocado Commission and the National Mango Board in this contest ...
STEPHENSON ... "We're asking people to send us pictures of their fruit bowl. So, inspiring us to eat more fruit, put the fruit out for family, and the contest is on Instagram and it will be called "What's In Your Fruit Bowl." So, people will take a photograph of their fruit bow and tag USA Pears with a hashtag what's in your fruit bowl
( #WhatsInYourFruitBowl ).
Stephenson says the pictures aren't limited to, but certainly should include some pears in your fruit bowl ...
STEPHENSON ... "So, if you throw a banana in there, that's fine with us, but we do want to see those pears in our contest. So, right now the most available pears on the market are Bosc, Green and Red Anjou. There's a little bit of Bartlett's still left, just a few suppliers that still have some out there, but mostly you're going to see those winter pears in most bowls around the country right now."
And for the winner?
STEPHENSON ... "The prize that we will provide for our favorite fruit bowl is going to be a big box of pears and, we also had the avocado folks send in the opportunity to get a box of California Avocados, which are just terrific, as well as a beautiful fruit bowl."
The contest runs through February.
