WSU, what is up with you? As if tuition isn't expensive enough, WSU has announced they will serve their students only Free-trade coffee, sustainable and preferably Starbucks. I would love a Starbucks latte everyday, but it's not in my budget. Nor would I be thrilled if either of my sons at universities drank only the most expensive coffee available to them. I want them to learn budgeting, of sacrificing momentary pleasure for goals. There is not much sacrificing going on at WSU who reports that they go through 16,000 lbs of coffee a month. Hypothetically, lets say they get a wholesale organic free trade coffee at 7.00 a pound. Their monthly coffee bill would be $112,000. Now if WSU opted instead for a quality commercial coffee at 4.0 pound they would save $48,000 dollars a month, over an eight month school yea that equates to a $384,000 savings. That would buy a lot of books. So do you think students would rather drink free trade coffee or be able to purchase a text book for under $100.00.
