American Rancher November 1, 2005 The Oregon Cattlemen`s Association (OCA) will be holding its annual convention at Eagle Crest Resort, in Redmond this week, November 3rd through the 5th. The Oregon CattleWomen, Oregon Trail Beef and Oregon Beef Council, will also be holding meetings in conjunction with OCA`s convention.
OCA Executive Director Kay Teisl says association members will evaluate and consider many issues during their meeting.
Teisl: "Of course we will be talking about National Animal ID, Oregon premise ID. There are some brand issues. We have livestock forage research discussion. The Wolf Task Force will be talking about where the association is going to go. We have private lands talking about Kelo versus New London and an update on measure 37 as well as beef cattle improvement subjects."
This year`s convention kicks-off with the Cattlemen`s College. The popular public lands round table discussion is slated for Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, at the request of the Oregon Cattlemen's Association and others, The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission has extended the public comment period for revisions to a proposed wolf management plan. The extension to November 30th will delay a decision on the proposed plan until December 1st. The wildlife commission decided to adopt a new rule to amend the Oregon Wolf Conservation and Management Plan after three proposed changes by the Legislature were not acted on during the 2005 session.
