I'm Bob Larson. The group formed this year to help protect farmers from the What's Upstream Campaign has added some new muscle.

Former state lawmaker Bill Hinkle has joined Save Family Farming as its new Development Director, who says he understands the pressures Washington farmers are under...

BILL HINKLE ... "I think family farming should be motherhood and apple pie to all Americans. It seems like we're constantly under attack from environmental extremists and people who just don't understand what's going on, and the good work that's going on on farms right now. So it's fun for me to be back working with farmers. I've been out of that realm for about 4 years now so it's nice to be back."

Hinkle hopes to hit the ground running and says job one for him, is to educate ...

BILL HINKLE ... "That's really what our goal is is to really keep the farm community and the public informed about the truth about what we're doing. There's a lot of good work happening on farms. Most farms in this state are family farms and they're threatened from a number of areas just trying to stay afloat in the economic environment where you have the cost of your input changing all the time and yet when you're selling commodities you really just can't raise your prices. I was just talking to a farmer last night, a wheat farmer, and soft white wheat is selling for a buck more right now than it did when I graduated from high school which is over 40 years ago."

Hinkle joins Save Family Farming Director Gerald Baron in the fight against the What's Upstream campaign.

Listen tomorrow and find why he thinks this is such an important issue.
