June Crop Production Stats

June's Crop Production statistics were released on Friday. USDA's NASS Mountain Region Director Bill Meyer shares the Colorado highlights

Meyer: "Our winter wheat production — this is as of June 1 — our total production is forecast 81.9 million bushels and that is up 11 percent from the forecast last month and it is up 3 percent from last year. Our average yield is estimated at 42 bushels an acre. That is 4 bushels above May 1 and 5 bushels above last year's final yield. If that yield is realized it will be the second biggest yield since our record yields that were set in 2010 and 1999. That is great and awesome. Our winter wheat conditions — this is as of last Monday — was rated at 55 percent good and 13 percent excellent. That is quite a bit above last year at this time when it was only 49 percent good to excellent. So baring any unforeseen circumstances like hail etc — it looks like it is going to be a good crop in Colorado."

Across the country winter wheat production is forecast at 1.51 bullion bushels, up 6 percent from the May first forces and up 10 percent from 2015. Based on June first conditions, the United States yield is forecast at 50.5 bushels per acre, up 2.7 bushel from last month and up 8 bushels from last year. If realized, this will be the highest yield on record for the Untied States.
