There are only 32 working days left on the Senate's legislative calendar before Vermont's GMO labeling law takes effect July 1. Unless Congress acts to pass a uniform national standard for food labeling, a state government representing only 600,000 residents will dictate the law of the land regarding America's food supply system. Faced with the Vermont labeling mandate, some food manufacturers have already begun to reformulate their products away from GMO ingredients – which studies show will raise the price of groceries for American families by more than $1,000 per year.
