Demand on Live and Feeder Cattle
This is Tom Allen with the Market Line Report for Feb 29th. Demand on live and feeder cattle, has gone up over the last week. Gregg Sanders explains the details from the USDA weekly feeder cattle summary. Sanders "In the western corn belt negotiated cash trade was limited. On light to moderate demand with a few early dress sales from 2.08 to 2.12, however not enough sales for a true market test. Trade was mostly inactive to light demand on the southern and northern plains. A few live steers sold at 1.30 to 1.33. A few live heifers sold at 1.34." Chicago March Wheat ended the week dn 2, at 443 ¼. March corn ended the last week dn 1, at 355. Portland prices for soft white wheat of 10 ½ % protein for Feb were dn 1, ranging from 5-49 to 5-87. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11 ½ % protein, prices for Feb were dn 9 ¾, ranging from 5-26 ½ to 5-42 ½. DNS wheat with 14 % protein, prices for Feb had a mixed market, dn 2 and up 3, ranging from 5-99 ¼ to 6-04 ¼. April Live Cattle closed the last week dn 12 ½ cents, at 137.22 ½. March Feeder cattle were dn 60 cents, at 158.75. Feb class III milk was unch, at 13-80.
