Oregon Wolf Delisting Legislation

Oregon Wolf Delisting Legislation

Oregon House Bill 4040 would ratify the decision of OR Fish and Wildlife Commission to delist the wolf from the state list of endangered species. It has passed the House. Oregon Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Jerome Rosa says
Rosa: “This bill will allow the Wolf plan to continue forward. There was ligation that was brought forward on December 30th by three environmental groups. So what will happen is that this will allow the plan to continue and not be held up without ligation. The ligation could really dely the process. So this will allow the Oregon Wolf Plan to continue into the Phase Two. There is three phrases of the wolf plan. The wolf population has been moving forward so this will allow the ODFW decision to delist and continue to move forward with the Wolf Plan.”
By delisting the the wolf, the ODFW did what they said they would do according to what has been approved by multiple stakeholders in the Oregon Wolf Plan.
He adds that the OCA realizes there will be a challenge in getting the bill to pass the Senate. He hopes the legislators will see the important affirmation this bill will bring to a plan multiple stakeholders promised to follow.
