Wine Grape Industry Awards

Wine Grape Industry Awards. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

During the recent Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers annual Convention held in Kennewick a number of awards were given out. Executive Director for WAWGG, Vicky Scharlau talks about some of the awards.

SCHARLAU: Each year the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers recognizes the achievements of industry leaders at an event where people in the industry actually nominate the potential award winners. So this year the Grower of the Year was Mimi Nye of Ste Michelle's Canoe Ridge Estate and the Industry Service Award was given to Dr. Ken Eastwell who recently retired from WSU and as the Director of the Clean Plant Center Northwest.

Two other awards were presented.

SCHARLAU: We also awarded Lifetime Achievement recognition to John Williams and Jim Holmes who are with Kiona Vineyards and Winery and with Ciel du Cheval on Red Mountain respectively. And then lastly, our Restaurant of the Year is also an award that is nominated by industry members and the Woodinville restaurant the Herbfarm was recognized not only for their really extraordinary food but certainly their extraordinary wine list from the Pacific Northwest.

About 2,000 state, national, and international participants from the grape and wine industry attended.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
