Mega El Nino to Blame for Warmer Oceans, not Global Warming

There is a general public perception that global warming is the cause of the heating up of the ocean waters and that the Mega El Nino — in its second year — had little to do with the increased temperatures.
At the recent Pacific Northwest Farm Forum Creighton University Professor Emeritus Dr. Art Douglas disagreed with that claim. He says it is all about the Mega El Nino. He says that major change has occurred in water temperatures in the last two years in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. If you examine that warming — there are similarities in 1939 to 41 and even back to the 1870s and 1890s— which correlate to past Mega El Ninos.
Douglas: “This El Nino event — super big, but very comparable to others 100 to 120 years ago. Secondly, when we actually look at the graph of water temperatures off the coast of Washington, Oregon all the way down to off of Chile. They were very steady from about 1976 to 2013 — meaning there was not much variable other than every other year may have been warm or cool. But now with El Nino this thing went way up — as I said 8/10s of a degree centigrade. So a lot of these reports that are indicating global warming around the world and El Nino just put an extra umph to the warming. I say it is the other way around. This El Nino — it’s a Mega El Nino — all it did was maybe create the global warming effect to appear to be the main cause — but it’s not.”
