09/02/05 Paul`s poem

Paul's Poem I've got some more cowboy poetry for you today. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be back right after this to tell you about today's poem. I begged my good friend, Paul Steuermann, to let me use one of his poems for "The American Rancher" poetry segment. Paul has ridden for the good ranches in our part of the country, M.C.'ed a Baxter Black performance, announces rodeos (the North Central Washington Fair hired Paul two years ago and we have really enjoyed his easy style.). Paul helps at auctions and fundraisers, eases the pain at funerals, respects pioneer and cowboy history, town tamer, and all-around good guy. Here's one of Paul's short poems titled "Cowboy Romance". I saw her in the distance; As I sat upon the hill A form that danced before my eyes; And made my heart stand still A vision of unspoken beauty; Wrapped in the female form Dear God, I fellen in love again; And I feeled all soft and warm That night I sat beside my fire; And the shadows that it cast And finally felt sweet relief; From the failures of the past And life and love sprang forth; Within my weary breast To heal it's ragged edges; Now finally I can rest For I have seen the future; I know someway, somehow I'll talk my doggone banker; Into letting me buy that cow Thanks Paul, I hope everyone enjoyed that as much as I enjoyed talking to Paul as we picked out a poem that would fit the program. I'm Jeff Keane.
