Roller Coaster Markets Today
I'm Matt Rice with the Market Line Report for Jan 5th. Cattle are trading both higher and lower across the board, we are seeing a mixed market. We have seen some gains over the last couple of months in the cattle, now we wait to see how high those numbers will continue to climb. We go to Jack Scoville as he goes over the details with the CME.Scoville- "Hi, a mixed trade for the cattle and hog markets. Mostly trading lower through the day, definitely with a mixed tone. Sharply lower in the early trading, in response to the outside markets principally, bad economic data from China for one. A stronger dollar.."
Chicago March Wheat ended yesterday dn 11 3/4, at 459 1/4. March corn ended yesterday dn 7 1/4, at 352. Portland prices for soft white wheat of ordinary protein for Jan had a mixed market, dn 10 and up 48 1/4, ranging from 5-18 1/4 to 5-20. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11 ½ % protein, prices for Jan. were dn 14 1/4, ranging from 5-39 1/4 to 5-49 1/4. DNS wheat with 14 % protein, prices for Jan. also had a mixed market, dn 8 ½ and up 6 1/2, ranging from 6-04 3/4 to 6-24 3/4. Feb. live cattle closed yesterday dn 37 ½ cents, at 136.85. Jan. Feeder cattle were up 72 ½ cents, at 168.65. Feb. class III milk was dn 7 cents at 13-67.
