Farm Hall

Farm Hall

Farm Hall. I'm Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

Three state legislators and a panel of ag industry leaders met with community members in the inaugural Farm Hall, in Richland yesterday. Led by Senators Judy Warnick, Sharon Brown and Mark Schoesler, the goal was to hear from the ag community on issues that are key to the continued success of the states ag community. Senator Brown explained the impetus for the meeting.

BROWN: I just want to explain a little bit about the genesis for this conversation that we're going to have today. It was born out of an idea we had when my husband and I were talking. There are so many issues that involve the agricultural community. I had been talking about the Town Halls that we typically do and so my husband says why don't you have a Farm Hall. I thought what a great idea.

Senator Warnick fielded a question regarding water storage issues.

WARNICK: The work that's being done on the Yakima Basin integrated plan is the long term. I already mentioned the Roza which is supposed to be a shorter term but without the funding coming from the federal level I know that the two senators, Murry and Cantwell are proposing that.

Also taking part were Jack Field, Executive Vice-President, Washington Cattlemen's Association; Dan Wood, Executive Director, Washington State Dairy Federation; Steve Cooper, a volunteer state leader for the Washington State Farm Bureau; Chris Voigt, Executive Director, Washington State Potato Commission; Ian Tolleson, Director of Government Affairs, Northwest Food Processors Association and Nicole Berg, Former President, Washington Association of Wheat Growers

And that's Washington Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
