Food Prices & Wolf Found

Food Prices & Wolf Found. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

It almost sounds like a Halloween story. A wolf that was thought to be dead has returned. No, not a Walking Dead wolf but OR3. Biologists last heard from OR3 in September 2011 near Prineville and was believed to be dead. Now this summer a photo of OR3 was taken on a hunter's trail in northern Klamath County. The wolf was originally part of the Imnaha pack but has joined the now famous OR7 and is part of the Rogue Pack.

Well if you've been to the grocery store lately you know that food prices are anything but stable. One week they're up, the next week they're up again. According to agriculture analyst Annemarie Kuhns, food prices are higher than a year ago, but not by much.

KUHNS: Fresh vegetable prices rose 1.8% and we're now paying 3% more for fresh vegetables than we did this time last year.

And get this, egg prices are 36.2% higher than they were a year ago. All in all, Kuhns says we have only seen about a 1% overall hike in food prices in the last year. Good news...fresh fruit prices are about 2% less than last year as well as less for pork and chicken even though beef is 2.3% higher.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
