Friend of the show, Rachel Allen, daughter-in-law to big kahunas on the Sportsman's Spotlight team, Kelly and Susan Allen, went deer hunting. I called her up to ask how she made out. "Apparently you heard one of my stories which was kind of an Op-Ed piece where a guy was saying leave the trophies alone and just shoot does. They are better eating. You went hunting for deer and apparently told my boss to tell Sparks to stuff it. Well to my defense in that story you did state that you only need one trophy on your wall and I don't have a trophy yet. Okay, tell me about it. We have this ground that we hunt and Austin is pretty familiar with it because he hunted there last year. First thing in the morning I had a spot cut out at the top of the hill where the white tail are pretty thick and I passed on a couple of smaller bucks. First morning, first light, it's kind of hard to pull the trigger. We were glassing and we saw a buck. When we first saw it, it was well over 500 yards so we glassed it. We could tell it was a four point so we decided to put a sneak on it. It was up on a hillside and there was a brushy draw below. We snuck up and headed about 440 yards and I just didn't feel comfortable with that shot so we kept going and got right about 320 yards broadside. He didn't know we were there. I shot and he didn't move. I thought I made a great shot on him right behind him.

You're going to hear more tomorrow but for now, what I loved hearing Rachel say was that she didn't take a reckless shot. She wasn't comfortable with that. Isn't that the way responsible hunters should be?
